Work too hard yet it’s never enough? 


Work too hard yet it’s never enough? #metoo  

 

And it’s the trait that most commonly links my clients, behind being mission-driven, but perhaps just before people pleasing.

I’ve been on my journey with this, and RIP those 7-day working weeks and 4 hour sleeps between meetings, calls, board papers and flights. 

 

And, I’m still on that journey, and find myself slipping down the ‘must work harder’ mental highway every once in a while. 

 

So here’s three different approaches, one practical, one energetic and one mental – to see what supports you exit this downward thought spiral super highway. 

 


  1. For the practical… 

 

Pareto Rule: First establish what you’re trying to achieve. And whether that’s more revenue (for you business owners), or more efficient and effective output (for you employees), there will be 20% of your activities that create 80% of that. Ditch the rest. 

 

2. For the energetic… 

 

Energy audit: Take stock of who and what energizes you and what sucks the life out of you. Then it’s not rocket science – do more of what fills you up, and ditch, delegate, diminish or transform those drains into something that does. 


3. And for truly transformational change… 

 

Abundance mindset: Feeling the need to do more comes from a scarcity mindset, of not being enough. But when is enough enough? Who gets to decide? No level of hard overworking will make you feel enough. Or achieve your desired results – as per (1) most things make no difference anyway. You are enough. You have enough. You have done enough.  Come from this place. 

 

Which one are you? 

 

Most leaders come to me wearing a badge of busyness that’s hard to drop, but really what lies behind it is either a lack of true direction, or a fear of dropping the comfortable action in favour of aligned action that will really move the needle…which one are you?
