Be You.
'Should the boss turn up to the team Christmas Party dressed like this?' I asked myself in Johannesburg in 2019.
Whenever a 'should' comes up, it's an indication I'm being pulled to conform rather than be myself. And bringing my true self to work, and to my leadership, is something I've been working on for years. Not showing up as a Zebra to the 'Out of Africa' themed work party would be out of alignment. So I donned the outfit and made everyone smile.
A year later, I asked former colleagues for feedback on the gifts I'd brought to the team (a Business Mastermind challenge), Courageous Leadership came up time and time again (second only to boundless energy).
I'd like to think this was based on more than the fancy dress costumes, as it was my mantra for everyday leadership in my role.
What's Courageous Leadership to you? Let me know.
